EU invests 4 million EUR in approximation of SPS measures in the Russian Federation

The EU is investing 4 million Euro in a project that will work on the approximation of regulations and methodology in Sanitary and Phytosanitary measures.

The project, which is set to last 30 months, will work with Russian authorities on SPS approximation, thus contributing to fostering closer economic ties, in line with the goals set out in the common economic space.

More specifically, the project will work on: harmonising Russian SPS measures with international and WTO-SPS rules and standards; improving evaluation and control of safety and quality of products; upgrading professional skills of personnel in veterinary departments; raising awareness of SPS issues in the private sector.

Key speakers at the event are H.E. Marc Franco, Head of the European Commission Delegation to the Russian Federation , Mr Sergey Dankvert, Head of the Federal Service for Veterinary and Phytosanitary Surveillance (Rosselkhoznadzor), as well as Mr Nikolay Vlasov, Head of the Veterinary Surveillance Department at Rosselkhoznadzor and Mr David Pepper, project team leader, who will present the project.

The main beneficiaries and partners in this project are the RF Ministry of Agriculture and Rosselkhoznadzor. The project is implemented by the British Standards Institute in association with the GFA Consulting Group.
